What are the best HVAC systems for park model homes, and how do I choose the right one?
It’s important to understand the different units that park model homes utilize. Semper Fi services a number of different options, depending on the size of your manufactured home.
According to their experts, these options are the best for park model home living, each having advantages to consider:
- Split A/C with Electric Furnace – In this application, a manufactured home-rated electric furnace is paired with a traditional outdoor condenser. While electric indoor heat can be more expensive than having a heat pump outdoor unit, the initial investment is lower.
- Split Heat Pump with Electric Furnace – In this application, a manufactured home-rated electric furnace is paired with a traditional outdoor heat pump unit. In this configuration, the outdoor unit provides both heating and cooling capabilities, and the blower motor in the indoor electric furnace is used to distribute air throughout the home while the electric heat component of the indoor unit is deactivated. Using a heat pump is generally more efficient than relying on the electric heating function of an electric furnace.
- Horizontal Discharge Heat Pump Packaged Unit – In this application, both the blower motor and heat pump is contained in one unit that sits outside the manufactured home and connects directly to ductwork that extends off the side of a manufactured home. Semper Fi has relationships with manufacturers that specialize in “narrow lot” packaged units, which have a smaller footprint than traditional packaged units and are specifically designed for manufactured home applications. Semper Fi can also convert a “split system” to a packaged unit application, allowing the space previously occupied by the indoor unit to be used as a closet so customers can reclaim valuable indoor space.
- Vertical Discharge Heat Pump Packaged Unit – In this application, ductwork extends under the manufactured home and connects to the packaged unit on the underside of the unit. The vertical discharge packaged unit sits directly above the ductwork openings, which are generally surrounded by a concrete pad on the exterior of the manufactured home.

How do I properly maintain my HVAC system for better efficiency and air quality?
Semper Fi also recommends changing your filters once per month, checking that your refrigeration pressure is up to standard, and investing in duct cleaning as needed. A clogged and dirty system has to work harder to keep you comfortable, which leads to higher bills and more expensive repairs, so it’s worth keeping up on maintenance instead!
Regular maintenance is not only critical to safety, but it can also have a dramatic effect on the very air you breathe! It can be difficult when moving to a new region, being a transplant to a new climate, and adjusting to all the new types of plants, pollens, and dander that come along with a new home and backyard. However, clean filters and mold-free ducts can stop allergen-filled air from circulating right back to you.
Semper Fi understands that HVAC is about more than just the temperature – it’s about the entire cycle of air quality and everything that means for your health.
Not only can an HVAC system breakdown prove to be expensive, but it can also be hazardous in the severe heat of summer or the cold of winter, which is why Semper Fi recommends doing your biannual servicing in the mild temperatures of fall and spring, so you can detect problems before they grow and keep yourself safe over the heartier seasons.
